Experience Lake Toya Through the Seasons

Spring

Spring brings the landscape back to life,
inviting you to experience its renewal with all five senses.
Look for the first blossoms and fresh green leaves
as you stroll in the gentle spring breeze.

Summer

Summer is the season when Lake Toya feels most refreshing.
Wake a little earlier and breathe in the fresh air among the greenery.
Later, board a sightseeing boat or take a boat out on the lake
and feel the breeze across the water.

Autumn

Lake Toya is one of Hokkaido’s popular autumn foliage destinations.
The colors of the lakeside trees and surrounding mountains
reflected on the water are well worth seeing.
The view from the Mt. Usu Ropeway is equally impressive.

Winter

From the hilltop, Lake Toya shines a clear blue.
Snowfields stretch into the distance among trees dressed in white.
A beautiful winter world unfolds around the lake.
Dress warmly before heading out.

Lake Toya Long-Run Fireworks Festival

A celebrated Lake Toya tradition, the fireworks begin in late April
and light up the sky every evening through the end of October.
For 20 minutes, from 8:45 to 9:05 p.m.,
brilliant bursts bloom across the night sky above Lake Toya.

Fishing

Lake Toya remains unfrozen even in the depths of winter,
and the winter fishing season opens on December 1.
Anglers use lures and flies to seek
rainbow trout and lake-dwelling cherry salmon.

Skiing

Orofure Ski Area is a 25-minute drive from Lake Toya,
while other nearby options include
the slopes of Rusutsu and Niseko.
